“A land of wheat and barley, and vines and fig-trees and pomegranates; a land of olive-trees and honey” (Deuteronomy, 8:8)   The seven species, fruit and crops with which Israel has been blessed, are an integral part of Israeli culture and landscape. We find them in orchards, fields, and vineyards. Our shopping carts are full to the brim with the seven species as we “pick” bread and pasta, vine leaves, olive oil, and date honey at the grocery store. The seven species are nutritious, contributing to our health as well as to our Israeli spirit. An entire culture envelops them: midrash and halacha, fables and folktales, symbols and ornaments, poems and stories.
