"The Missing Spice" is a children's version of a well-known Talmudic tale, adapted by the Israeli author Dvora Omer. The Roman Caesar Antoninus relished the special flavor of Shabbat at the home of Rabbi Yehuda Hanassi. Although the food was cold, the Shabbat meal was delicious and even tastier than a weekday feast! After reading the story together, you and your children are invited to consider how you celebrate the Sabbath, and try to identify your own family's "missing Shabbat spice".
