A wise man reaches a crossroad; while he contemplates which way to go, he meets a boy who suggests two possible routes: the long-short road or the short-long road. The wise man does not ask the boy which is preferable, sets out on the short road, and finds out why it is also long, and practically impossible to walk on.
Age Group: SECOND GRADE
A wise man reaches a crossroad; while he contemplates which way to go, he meets a boy who suggests two possible routes: the long-short road or the short-long road. The wise man does not ask the boy which is preferable, sets out on the short road, and finds out why it is also long, and practically impossible to walk on. The man is forced to backtrack and recognize that wisdom can also be found in a young boy, who understands that, sometimes, the long road is actually the shortest.
The wise man telling this story is Rabbi Yehoshua ben Hananya (Eiruvin, 53b), and his tale inspired the book The Long Road which suggests that we listen, learn from others, and enjoy the way too!
