Peace to the World

By: Neri Aluma Illustrations: Rotem Teplo

Eli the ibex and Nanny the rabbit had a fight. How will they reconcile and mend their friendship if they refuse to talk to one another? And how can they help a pair of young doves? A rhyming story about fighting, friendship, and reconciliation.

Age Group: Preschool (4-6)

Sometimes, when we fight, we feel anger and hurt that distance us from friends we love. That is exactly what happened to the hyrax and ibex. When the young doves try to help them reconcile, they follow in the footsteps of Aaron, the High Priest, as described in the midrash – reminding each of them of the love and friendship that the other feels toward them, thereby warming their hearts, and helping them to make peace with one another.

“When he (Aaron the High Priest] noticed two persons at enmity one with the other, he used to go first to one of them and say to him, ‘Why do you hate So-and-so? He has already come to my house, prostrated himself before me and said to me, “I sinned against So-and-so”. Go and pacify him’. When he left this one, he went to the other and spoke to him similarly, and so made peace, love and friendship between a man and his fellow”.
