Rabbi Eliezer says: One grabs the matzot on the nights of Pesach on account of the children, so that they will not sleep
(Talmud Bavli, Pesachim 109a)
Afikomen – The afikomen is a matza eaten at the end of Seder Night in commemoration of the Pesach sacrifice. The afikomen is traditionally hidden to make the children curious and encourage them to stay up until the end of the Seder. In some Jewish communities, the children try to find the afikomen and return it at the end of the Seder in exchange for a gift offered to them by the adults.
