A Good Name

By: Adi Zelichov-Ralevy illustrations: Rotem Teplow

The perfume merchant is jealous of the success of his neighbor, the oil merchant, and accuses him of stealing his money. How can the judges decide if the charge is true? A child in the village has the answer – a wise girl suggests an original way to bring justice to light. This book is based on a traditional Jewish folktale handed down from generation to generation.

Age Group: KINDERGARTEN

The judge struggles to decide to whom the coins belong – to the perfume merchant or to the oil merchant – when a little girl is wise enough to show him which of the two men is speaking the truth. This tale brings ancient wisdom to us, readers, whereby the most precious thing is the good name, or good reputation, that a person makes for him/herself in this world – the name and reputation of an honest merchant, and that of a clever girl who brings justice  .to light and is worthy of judging between people
A good name is better than precious oil
